The municipality of Gáldar hosts this Friday and Saturday, 3 and 4 November, the Regional Meeting of Banana Producers of Ecological.
This first meeting includes a technical conference in which will analyze and discuss the challenges and solutions in the production and experience that already exist in the conversion to organic farming.
The main objective of this meeting is to know the reality and the current situation of ecological agriculture banana and gather around worktables this important subsector.
In addition, these sessions will be complemented with a party on Saturday Banana, in the Plaza de Santiago, representation of companies producing North, tasting products and folk performances.
On Friday 3, in the Town Theater, starting at 11:00 hours working hours in which the producers arrived from La Palma will begin, Tenerife and Gran Canaria will discuss the challenges and solutions in organic banana production, sharing experiences and discussing proposals for improvement of this subsector.
At 17.00 hours, It will take place the official ceremony which will be presided over by the mayor of the city, Teodoro Sosa Monzón. At 17.30 hours, the sustainable agriculture program will be discussed in the experience of the Cabildo de La Palma in the conversion to organic farming of banana. as rapporteur, Andres Rodriguez Batista, technician Agricultural Extension Agency of Brena Alta.
Also on Friday 3, to the 18.15 hours, will begin the intervention of Estrella Hernández Suárez, Canario researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Research (ICIA), who will speak to attendees of the "Advances in integrated pest management in plataneras", and to the 19.15 hours, experience in converting this organic farming will be presented by farmers in Gáldar, The village, La Palma and Tenerife. then, a roundtable will discuss the improvement of production and marketing, by directors of packaging companies Gran Canaria.
