Since yesterday, The Canarian tomato export sector regrets the loss of one of the “big” who dedicated a very important part of his life to this sector.

The application of their knowledge allowed innovating in the family business, to which he joined in the year 1967 as Agricultural Technician, technical studies that he studied at the University of La Laguna.

Juan Antonio, with his brother Silvestre, contributed “new sap” to the family business, adding the principles of honesty, seriousness and good work at the job they learned from their father.

Juan Antonio Angulo excelled in sports, reaching to play with a professional record and as a soccer goalkeeper in various island teams such as the Orotava, Tenerife and even in the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas.

Regarding agriculture, Juan Antonio was in charge of improving production systems, with the aim of obtaining a quality product and excellence inand the work carried out by all the staff.

In 1978, Juan Antonio makes a parenthesis in his professional life joining HUMET INVESTIGACIÓN, S.A., pioneering company in the development of agricultural projects of scope, how was drip irrigation (one of the first in the Canary Islands) or the scientific study of fertigation, being part of these projects.

He advised crops on the island of Gran Canaria and carried out work for governments such as Senegal. In 1979 starts working at INCA Canary Islands, S.A. up to 1981, year in which he joins the family business again.

In 1982, the heirs of Silvestre Angulo Brito create the Limited Company “SILVESTRE ANGULO BRITO”, and in 1989, facing future expectations, business expands with creation, together with several partners, of the “S.A.T.. The Furel”, in order to grow and export tomatoes.

In this new company Juan Antonio with his brother Silvestre put a lot of effort, and with the generosity in the "letting go" of the other partners, new greenhouses are being built which are equipped with the latest available technology.

In 1994, the “S.A.T is created. Hortícola Aldeana” to be dedicated, exclusively, to the packaging and marketing of the fruit, unifying, In addition, all technical and administrative management tasks.

The group of companies is thus consolidated., Suntom Group, that currently remains and that had Juan Antonio Angulo in the Technical Directorate and has Silvestre Angulo in the administrative department.jaysa

In 2003, Hortícola Aldeana”, received an Honorary Distinction, within “Agrarian Awards, Canary Islands fishing and food”, to business work that, continuously and relevant, has practiced in agricultural activities, recognizing his business career.

Juan Antonio Angulo was part of the La Aldea Technical Commission, contributing his experience in the crisis of “White fly”. He also participated in the first meetings of the incipient Economic and Social Council of La Aldea.

Last year, the Department of Agriculture of the Municipality of La Aldea, awarded him a lifetime achievement award, within the Agrarian and Fishing Recognitions, The village 2011, recognizing the important role it has played for the sector and, particularly, to the economy and society of the municipality.
