This saturday day 12 may, the neighborhood of La Culata de Tejeda will bring together more than seventy equines, horses, donkeys and mules, of the island, in a contest that will reward the most outstanding specimens of the Majorera breed.

Fourteen years now and with the same enthusiasm as the first day. Like this, stated the founder and vice president of the Asociación Feria Equina La Culata, Fernando G. Alba, the care with which they have prepared this new edition that will present in society four new creatures of just a few months, born in the donkey recovery center of Llanos de la Pez and Pargana.

Alba expresses the need to recover the donkey from the land in front of “at the bulk entry of specimens of Romanian origin”, However, it is aware of the difficulty that it supposes since the work that this animal carried out has been relegated to the walk of hikers and foreigners in the so-called “burro safaris”.

The history of this Fair dates back to the nineties when, a group of neighbors from the neighborhood and Fernando, They agreed to create this appointment as an act of their parties.

Years later, created the non-profit association Feria Equina La Culata. In the ninth edition they launched the Donkey Recovery Center, which was located in what at the time was planned and equipped as the Center for the Improvement of Livestock Breeds in the plains of La Pez and Pargana (Tejeda).

Alba expresses her satisfaction with the result achieved: we have all our hopes and illusions that the work will come to fruition and we will achieve the goal of recovering this animal.

A good moment, definitely, to go to know the work and the specimens that still exist on the island. The activity will start very early in the morning with the reception of the animals. Then there will be popular food, players, Rama and a great uproar with singers in the bars, like last year.

In Gran Canaria there is a deep tradition in this type of calls, since in the 21 municipalities are counted 95 cattle fairs throughout the year, from january to december; some with more than a century and others with just a few editions.
