The Association of Banana Producers of the European Union (APEB) held a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Food and environment, Isabel García Tejerina, to which they expressed their concern about the repercussions of the EU agreement with Ecuador for the marketing of Ecuadorian bananas in the European market.
The meeting calendar began last Tuesday with the celebration, in Madrid, of the general assembly of the Association of Banana Producers of the European Union, APEB, where producers from European banana-producing regions put on the table the fundamental aspects in order to guarantee the future of the sector.
In addition to the meeting with Minister Isabel García Tejerina, Banana producers held different meetings with the Secretary of State for the EU, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, and the Secretary of State for Commerce, Jaime García-Legaz.

To do this, will request the governments of the producing countries, Spain, France and Portugal, that activate, together with community banana producers, the commission of “Banana friends” to carry out a professional analysis of the repercussions of these agreements and to be able to take the necessary measures in time to maintain the production and income of the producers., as has been achieved so far.
Community producers consider that the only way to counteract these agreements is to increase the financial record that community banana producers are currently awarded..

The APEB delegation has been led by its president, Leopoldo Cólogan; the administrator of the entity, Gérard Bally; the president of the president of the Association of Banana Producer Organizations of the Canary Islands (Asprocan), Santiago Rodriguez; the head of the Union of Banana Producer Groups in Guadeloupe and Martinique (Ugban), Eric de Lucy; as well as the manager of the Madeira Producers Association (Gesba), Jorge Dias.
Ecuador is, worldwide, the most important country in both production and export of bananas and among its most important objectives is to consolidate its presence in the European market.
