IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME AND COAGRISÁN SPRAYED THE HISTORICAL RECORDS AGAIN.

Not even the inclement weather could prevent this time the Cooperativa COAGRISÁN from exceeding four and a half million packages packed in the field.. Last year the crisis of the E. Coli; This harvest the climate accelerated the achievement of the record.

While the harvest 2011-2012 Ten days ago it ended for the rest of the Canary Islands tomato exporting companies, COAGRISÁN continues to send tomatoes to Europe at a time when demand continues to rise due to the shortage of fruit.

After the increase in temperatures of the previous week in which peaks of 48ºC were registered in greenhouses of El Pinillo and El Hoyo, five days later, all the tomato matured, which was to be done in fifteen days.

This fact meant for COAGRISÁN to increase the pace of work in a hectic week in which they had to double shifts, hire more transports and output 252.000 packages that have exceeded the number of 4,5 million packages packed this campaign.

The quantity of tomatoes that arrived at the cooperative's packaging warehouse forced them to carry out working days until midnight; long hours that were not remembered since April 2002 in which a heat wave required to extend the hours.

Eight trucks moved in four days 1.400 fruit sticks in 75 trips from La Aldea to the pier of Las Palmas. In total they made about 4.700 kilometers, i.e., 1.500 kilometers more than the distance that separates La Aldea from the port of Rotterdam.

The case of COAGRISÁN is exceptional in this campaign. According to FEDEX data, this harvest has meant a reduction of 8,6 million kilos of tomatoes for the southeast of Gran Canaria, due to the financing problems of three companies in this area.

The cooperative will continue to pack tomatoes until next week, in which, since there is no more fruit, they will end the current campaign reaching, probably, the 4,6 million packages.

The solidarity commitment.

Perhaps this is the most unknown part of the COAGRISÁN cooperative that delivered, last week, through the FEDEX to various social organizations in the capital one and a half million kilos of tomatoes.

For years, the cooperative has been making periodic deliveries to soup kitchens of organizations such as San Juan de Dios, Caritas and Our Lady of Carmen, among others.
