THEY ARE INTRODUCING THE PRODUCT INTO THE EU BELOW THE MINIMUM PRICE.
COAG Almería is aware that Morocco is introducing tomatoes into Europe, through the French market of Perpignan, below the established minimum price (0,46 euros/kilo), which violates the terms of the preferential agreement signed with the EU.
According to the figures managed by COAG, the loose tomato from Morocco, cat. I 67-82mm was sold yesterday in the market St. Charles of Perpignan to 0,45 euros/kilo.
The agricultural organization demands explanations from the community customs authorities, since it is obvious that border controls are not being carried out. In this sense, COAG demands that the Spanish Government check whether they are being carried out correctly in our country., as well as to urge the European Commission to open an investigation to clarify, once and for all the situation of imports of fruits and vegetables from third countries.
COAG denounces, In addition, the ineptitude of many marketers in the province of Almería, who are sending tomatoes to destination markets without a price, an irresponsible practice that is contributing to the general decrease in the price of this product in Europe.
The Agrarian Coordinator calls for the sanity of these companies, who know perfectly well that the production volume of Almería at the moment, lower than normal due to low temperatures, does not justify in any case the use of this system.
