After thirteen months of planting the nine hectares of organic banana, COAGRISAN has proceeded to cut the first pineapples, in an act in which the heads of the financial institutions were present, of the municipality of La Aldea and cooperatives and directors of the entity.
This initiative is part of the export tomato diversification and complementarity program, that started the COAGRISAN cooperative more than a year ago.
during the act, the president of COAGRISAN, Juan José del Pino, described the day as a 'historical milestone', not only for the entity it represents but for the municipality of La Aldea.
Del Pino highlighted the importance of the initiative for what this new business activity entails, for which the cooperative had to adapt its Statutes.
The president recalled that La Aldea, in the decades of 60 and 70 of the last century, had a very important banana cultivation area. It was the weather conditions that caused the abandonment of this crop, fundamentally, due to lack of water.
The act of the 'first cut' was followed by the tasting of the first organic banana pineapple in which, in addition to the Rector and the cooperative members who attended, the heads of Bankia's financial institutions participated, Cajamar Caja Rural, BBVA and CaixaBank, the head of the Agricultural Extension Agency of La Aldea, as well as the mayor and the councilor for Agriculture of the City Council of La Aldea de San Nicolás.
This first cut marks the beginning of the harvest of the nearly nine hectares that the Cooperative has planted, to which we must add another six of conventional cultivation of some cooperatives.
The day left a census of 343 half pineapples 45 kilos that were transferred to the packaging warehouse of 'Costa Caleta', where they will be treated and cut, under the brand ‘La Guancha’, to be marketed as 'Organic Canarian Banana'.
COAGRISAN has opted for the organic cultivation of bananas as a continuation of the cultivation of tomatoes in an integrated fight, zero waste and respect for the environment to obtain top quality productions in a unique environment.
Of the nine and a half hectares that are beginning to be harvested, 4,2 they are outdoors and 5,3 under greenhouse, noticing the difference of higher quality of the banana trees that are in the greenhouse.
in cultivation, one hundred percent ecological, they have been used as slurry fertilizers,
manure, release of auxiliaries for pest control and the work of tomato nurseries has been adapted to use organic waste as fertilizer in banana plantations.
to all of it, as pointed out by the technical team, The excellent climate of La Aldea has contributed, safely, will allow to obtain more cycles in less time.
For this new initiative that consolidates, COAGRISAN has created eight direct jobs and produces support rotation with the staff that works in seedbeds and in the R&D&I greenhouses.
