After cutting the first pineapples, SAT Costa Caleta packed the first contingent of organic bananas.
The banana packaging warehouse of the SAT Costa Caleta has also lived his historic journey when handling and packaging, for the first time, organic banana in your facilities.
As the warehouse is shared for the handling of conventional banana, the technicians explain to Agroaldea that the organic banana is the first to be packaged to comply with regulations. The entire line has been cleaned of any conventional treatment for avoid any pollution to the ecological.
Since early in the morning, 6:30, the Costa Caleta warehouse becomes a hotbed of activity in which the banana is the main protagonist.
The organic banana made this day very special because of the novelties that are introduced for packaging. After the hand removal operation, the bunches are placed in tanks with water to, then, be cut again into bunches of 4 from 5 bananas.
These new bunches are placed in plastic trays to be weighed., 9 kilos approximately, What, later, are introduced into a kind of washing train with a cinnamon-based solution, to avoid the appearance of fungi on the stem of the bunch.
Then, The bunches are introduced into the cardboard box in which they will be marketed. On this occasion, the trademark chosen by Costa Caleta is ‘La Guancha’, a brand with which they differentiate the specialties they produce.
The new box is different from the one used for the conventional banana, both in size and shape, being that of ecological more similar to a tray of nine kilos.
Once the boxes are completed, the rest of the process is fully automated. The workers, after pasting the traceability label, they place the boxes on a conveyor belt that will take them to a platform where the pallet is made up.
The last task is to place in each of the boxes, the adhesive numbered granted by the Canarian Institute of Agrifood Quality, ICCA, that certifies the banana as ‘organic’.
Despite being the first day to handle and pack the organic banana, there were no more setbacks than that of some locked boxes and the height of the pallets, what shows the professionalism of warehouse workers.
At last, in a process that did not arrive after two hours, they were packed nine pallets of organic banana that at the moment they are heading to Barcelona, where they are already sold.
Now, once a week or every ten days, according to the state of the fruit, It will proceed to cut and continue to be sent to the Costa Caleta warehouse for packaging.
