european-commissionThe former Minister of Agriculture of the Junta de Andalucía and current MEP, Clara Aguilera, has been appointed vice president.

The members of the European Parliament Committees have already been appointed (ON) for the new legislature, highlighting the appointment of great experts in the fruit and vegetable sector in the Agriculture and Rural Development and Environment Commissions, Public Health and Food Safety.

The new vice president, Clara Aguilera has reiterated her commitment to defend the interests of the European agricultural sector, calling it strategic, for both Spain and Andalusia, his appointment, which makes her the only Spaniard in the direction of the parliamentary commission.

The new vice president takes over as head of this commission with significant and proven experience in the agricultural sector.. the consumption of snails by the Canarian population 2000-2007, being a regional representative in the Andalusian Parliament, served as spokesperson for Agriculture; and among the 2009 and 2012 has been advisor of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development in the Junta de Andalucía.

He also has extensive knowledge of the sector after more than twelve years of experience working in agricultural cooperatives., becoming manager of the Federation of Agricultural and Livestock Cooperatives (FECOAGA) in the province of Granada and the Andalusian Federation of agricultural cooperative companies (FAECA).

In addition to being vice president of the Agriculture Commission, Clara Aguilera will take care of the affairs of the Fisheries Commission and the International Trade Commission.

Most of the appointments corresponding to the Agriculture and Rural Development and Environment Commissions, Public Health and Food Safety, have fallen on great experts and connoisseurs of the fruit and vegetable sector.

The Agriculture Commission will be chaired by the Polish Czeslaw Adam Siekierski (European People's Party Group).

As for the Spanish MEPs who, together with Clara Aguilera, are part of the Agriculture and Rural Development Commission, they include, of the European People's Party group (Christian Democrats): Pilar Ayuso, Esther Herranz García and Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso, former president of the Region of Murcia; del Grupo Confederal de la Izquierda Unitaria Europea/Izquierda Verde Nórdica: Pablo Iglesias Turrión y María Lidia Senra Rodríguez y de Los Verdes/Alianza Libre Europea: Jordi Sebastiá Talavera.

La Comisión de Medio Ambiente, Salud Pública y Seguridad Alimentaria está presidida por Giovanni La Vía, del Grupo del Partido Popular Europeo y los españoles que forman parte de esta Comisión son Pilar Ayuso, Esther Herranz y Francesc Gambús, del Grupo del Partido Popular Europeo (Christian Democrats); Iratxe García Pérez del Grupo de la Alianza Progresista de Socialistas y Demócratas; e Isosu Mirena Juaristi y María Teresa Rodriguez, del Grupo Confederal de la Izquierda Unitaria Europea/Izquierda Verde Nórdica.
