OFFERS COMPLETE DIRECTORIES OF SPANISH ECOLOGICAL FARMERS AND LIVESTOCK, CONSUMER GROUPS, COOPERATIVES, MARKETS AND FAIRS.
Among the objectives of this initiative is to avoid the abuses committed by some intermediaries by offering a dignified outlet and directly to the productions.
Julio Infante and Carolina Fernández are the founders and managers of ECO Agricultor, a platform that facilitates and encourages the encounter between organic producers, consumer groups and individuals.
Among the goals that have been set, they intend to support farmers who decide to promote biodiversity and respect the environment through agroecological techniques., and that they can subsequently deliver their products in a dignified way and preferably directly to the consumer, to avoid abuse by some intermediaries, abuses that consumers also pay.
In this way, promote direct sales and short marketing channels. This has very positive consequences actively collaborating in rural development and the creation of networks of small farmers and groups that understand this form of consumption as the most responsible and fair., explains Julio Infante.
ECO agricultor is a pioneer project in Spain. It arose in the absence of any website that exhaustively offers directories of organic farmers and processors, consumer groups, organic markets, events, etc., at the national level.
ECO agricultor began its journey last July due to the lack of information and support for organic farming, internal organic consumption and consumer groups. Despite the fact that Spain is the leading European producer of organic farming, domestic consumption is still very low, -Infante points out-, that is why we have proposed to facilitate access to organic food, seasonal and local.
One of the novelties of the portal is the highlight of the consumer groups. Consumption groups are people who come together to buy food. These people have concerns regarding the importance of the biodiversity of each area and respect for the environment, towards supporting small farmers and sustainable rural development, and at the same time they want to eat in a healthy way, with seasonal foods that have been produced locally, at fairer prices, for both the consumer and the producer.
Its founders have planned in the short term to turn this portal into a tool to promote values that are so necessary at an environmental and social level such as promoting the right to dignified recognition of small producers, responsible consumption, sustainable rural development, healthy eating habits and local cooperation networks to achieve greater food sovereignty.
