In search of the best and the greatest Pope of the country.

The contest to find it is held in Valleseco this coming Saturday 1 August on the eve of the Los Paperos Festival.

As has been tradition, The Gran Canaria municipality of Valleseco hosts the potato contest, coinciding with the harvesting of the potato crops that are the symbol of this popular festival called Los Paperos.

In last year's edition, a potato weighing almost two kilos was caught, 1.950 grs., among the thousands of kilos that were harvested in the Madrelagua area.

Registration to participate in the contest ends at 19.00 hours, and as usual, three categories will be awarded., among which the best batch and the best potato stand out.

This initiative is organized by the Festival Commission of the Madrelagua neighborhood, that seeks to publicize the “authentic agricultural jewels” of the island's midlands, with the aim of highlighting this tuber.
