This aid corresponds to the commitment made by the EU, third pillar in the application of the Strategic Plan for tomatoes, whose payment in time and form, confirms that this is the only institution that complies with the Canary Islands tomato.
This aid was proposed, within the framework of the Strategic Plan, as an incentive to motivate Canarian tomato customers in Europe to favor its consumption. Therefore, it is an aid that the marketer receives directly at the destination and not in the Canary Islands..
The aid is finalist in nature so it cannot be used for any other concept.. Like this, The EU transfers the funds to the Government of the Canary Islands, which is in charge of managing them and ensuring compliance with the aforementioned aid..
The approved amount corresponds to the second semester of said subsidy line, whose total amount amounts to 3,26 millions of euros, of which farmers already received 2,26 million corresponding to the first semester, in the month of December.
According to the Executive, The tomato sector of the Archipelago will receive a minimum of 16,5 million euros in aid managed by the regional department; amount to which must be added the part corresponding to this crop of the own funds entered in the Budgets of the Autonomous Community for the current year.
This amount is divided into 3,33 million euros from the modernization line of the Rural Development Program (PDR), and POSEI funds distributed in 7,35 million euros of aid to export tomato producers, in 3,9 million euros of aid to the foreign market, and in two million own funds contributed by the Government of the Canary Islands as a result of the extraordinary credit.
In addition to those 16,58 million, This subsector will benefit from the part corresponding to this crop of the three million euros of the Autonomous Community's own funds provided for in the Budgets for this year., whose distribution has not yet been established and has the sector in suspense.
The regional Executive will continue working, with more effort if possible, for the execution of actions aimed at supporting and consolidating the tomato sector, so important for some regions of the Islands.
On the horizon 2015-2020, The Government of the Canary Islands has committed that in the “Action 1.5. Aid per hectare tomato producers export” POSEI, to study different possibilities to improve production subsidies.
The counselor has ratified a firm commitment to make a joint effort between the Canary executive and social and economic partners operating in the tomato sector in the Canary Islands.
