Regularizing-farms and livestockThe Agriculture and Planning Services of the Cabildo work together to regularize the situation of the almost 600 alleged livestock farms that exist in La Palma.

The Planning Counselor of the Cabildo of La Palma, Gonzalo Pascual, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and fisheries, Jose Basilio Perez, They are holding working meetings with the team drafting revision number 2 of the Insular Management Plan of La Palma (PIOLP), with the aim of promote all those actions that aim to provide legal security to livestock farms on the Island who are currently in a situation of illegality.

“Within the framework of the correction of material errors in the review of the PIOLP, We set ourselves as a planning objective the power regularize the greatest number of livestock farms possible, in order to provide legal security to the holders of the same”, explains the planning advisor.

Gonzalo Pascual also points out that “It is essential to make livestock uses compatible with residential ones, trying to solve the distances between the ranchers' residences and the exploitation areas”.

“These entrepreneurs must carry out your activity with full guarantee, since we understand that the development of the primary sector is a fundamental pillar for the revitalization of the island economy, because it has a large implementation and serves as income supplement or as the main activity of many palm tree families“, the counselor points out.

The farms that are in a situation of illegality are around 600, dedicated to cattle, ovine, goat, porcine, avian and equine, among others.

José Basilio Pérez trusts that the ultimate objective of regularization can be achieved with these work meetings and with the application of the Urgent Measures Law which has been requested by the Island Council from the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and waters of the Canary Islands.

“We estimate that could be solved around a 90% of the cases and we would remain pending to specifically study the situation of the remaining ones to contemplate if their illegality situation can be solved from another area or from municipal planning.”, concluye el consejero.
