THEY CONSIDER THAT THE CUT TO THE FINANCIAL SHEET OF THE ADDITIONAL POSEI WILL PRESENT A BRAKE TO THE PROGRESS OF THE SECTOR.

The Association of Beekeepers of Tenerife, APITEN, foresees that this year's honey harvest will be "regular, with a lower production than in previous years due to the lack of rain and the absence of flowering, which has prevented the bees from collecting the nectar necessary to make honey”.
This was stated by its president, Juan Jesus Ramos, during the celebration of the General Assembly of this association in the municipality of Arafo, where they also celebrated the Colmenero day.

the meeting, which brought together some 400 people, mostly professionals from the beekeeping sector, It also served to analyze the situation in which this livestock subsector finds itself..

The concern of beekeepers focuses, in addition to the drought and the need to establish compensatory measures, in the drastic cuts suffered by the financial statement of the additional POSEI for this year in which it has been eliminated 96.626 euros for the production of quality honey from the autochthonous race of black bees.

The president of APITEN explained that this elimination in the general budgets of the item corresponding to the production of honey, It arrives like a jug of cold water and will put a brake on the progress of the sector in recent years and just now when the transitory national protection of the Protected Designation of Origin for Tenerife Honey has already been approved.

Ramos recalled that the Association has worked intensively on this project and will allow our product to be placed at a much more competitive level with respect to other honeys on the market, since its origin, quality and brand are certified in the absence of final European protection.
