The island extra virgin olive oil wins the contest organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife.

Extra virgin olive oil, made by the Sociedad Cooperativa Abona Summit under the trademark Oleoteide, He has won the first edition of the competition organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife.
This product - a mixture or blend of oils from arbosana varieties (80%), arbequina (10%) and koroneiki (10%)- It has achieved the highest distinctions of the contest, the great gold olive, to confirm it as the best of Tenerife and Canary Islands extra virgin olive oil of 2015.
Has also been recognized with the gold olive award an arbequina olive oil made by Antonio Martin, Tenerife.
Other four oils have been distinguished with the silver olive: two brand Oleoteide made by the cooperative Summit de Abona, one of the picual variety and other arbequina; another mixture of different varieties presented by Mª Rosario García (Tenerife) and a monovarietal quarter from Fuerteventura under the trademark Teguerey arbequina, that it has also got the award for the best presentation.
The Vice President and island agriculture Advisor, Livestock and fisheries, Jesús Morales, explains that the main objective of this competition “It is boosting production of olive oil to produce a quality product with added value for your marketing”.
Morales recalled that, just as it did in his day with honey, “the chapter returns to be a pioneer with a crop that has shown a great capacity for expansion on the island”.
A total of 23 samples, from Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, they have participated in this first edition of the contest and nine others have competed in the section on presentation.
All have been subjected to a wine tasting “blind” by a sworn expert, that it has valued the product according to the recommendations of the international olive oil Council.
The oils that have participated in the contest have competed in three categories: two varietal, made from a single variety of olive (arbequina and picual) and another mix or blend extra virgin olive oils, resulting from the grinding of different varieties of olives or mixture of oils of different varieties in different proportions.
