THIS YEAR COMPLETES TEN YEARS OF PRODUCTION AND GRINDING IS EXPECTED 45.000 KILOS OF OLIVES.

The Rural Development Agency of the Agüimes City Council has started the collection of olives in the municipal oil mill, for the production of the Caserío de Temisas Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the campaign 2012-2013.

Given the climatological and geographical characteristics of Gran Canaria and, in particular, of Agüimes are the oil mills in this area that begin their production earlier.

In this campaign it is expected to collect some 45.000 kilos of olives, despite the fact that this year the conditions have been quite unfavorable, from a climatic point of view due to the lack of rain and excess heat in the month of August.

This Oil Mill, in its tenth year of production, is responsible for transforming olives from local olive trees into an oil of proven quality, that has already created a name in Canarian gastronomy. The olive that arrives at the municipal oil mill must meet a series of requirements, among which it is required that it be free of pests and diseases.

The extra virgin olive oil is extracted by a centrifugal technical procedure in two cold phases., achieving a high quality oil.

The Caserío de Temisas oil mill arose from the desire to transform the olives from the olive trees in the mid-range area of ​​the municipality., where there are oil mills dating from the 16th century.

In July of 2001 Rural Tourism of Agüimes, together with the Rural Development Agency of the Agüimes City Council, emprendieron el proyecto de elaboración de Aceite de Oliva Virgen Extra a partir de la adquisición de una máquina de extracción de aceite de oliva de última generación.

Subsequently, in the year 2009 se realizó una importante inversión para mejorar la maquinaria aceitera y aumentar el grado de automatismo y la capacidad de producción del sistema, aceptando aceitunas de calidad de distintas zonas de la isla e incluso de otras islas.

La campaña durará unos dos o tres meses más; por lo que el Aceite de Oliva Virgen Extra Caserío de Temisas estará en el mercado en los meses de enero o febrero del próximo año.
