FARMERS MARKETIt will take place this Saturday 19 July at the Agricultural Farm of the insular institution in Arucas.

The Councilor for Agriculture of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Francisco Santana, and the president of the Association of Agricultural Markets, Ranchers and Fishermen of Gran Canaria, Maria del Carmen Perez, have presented the program of the VI Anniversary of the Agricultural Market, Rancher and fisherman of the island.

The institutional stand will have free tastings of the tuna that is caught in the waters of Gran Canaria, as well as meat from farms and cabins, in addition to the traditional cake with which to blow out the candles for another year.

In addition, as is traditional, a basket of products contributed by the stallholders will be raffled and farmers will be recognized. The day will be enlivened with folkloric performances and for children there will also be activities such as pony rides.

The counselor pointed out that the objective of this Market continues to be to publicize this activity that “it has been growing” and what has served “goad to remove” the intermediary.

On the other hand, Pérez assured that it is “proud to have and keep” the market because, he claimed, are being created “A lot of Workposts”, besides that citizens can find products “quality”.

Currently, the Cabildo participates in the organization of the fortnightly markets of Arucas and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, as well as the one that is held once a month in Artenara. In this sense, The counselor said that they are also working with Moya so that a monthly one is held in said municipality.

The Agricultural Market, Livestock and Fisheries of Gran Canaria is made up of about 40 stall holders, who visit an average of 2.000 and 3.000 people. Pérez, that encouraged citizens to visit the Market, I affirm that “the one who knows him, Fall in love”.

On the other hand, the counselor opted for a diversity of cultivation in Gran Canaria, what is going to cause a “equilibrium” although he acknowledged that it remains “a long way to go”.

Thus, he was referring to the situation of the potato, question on which he indicated that the Cabildo is in contact with COAG to find a solution with which “try to balance” what is produced and imported so that consumers do not pay for it.
