FAO proposed methodologyWith it considers all the key elements of a territorial recovery process of a product of the earth.

The focus of the virtuous circle of quality linked to origin is based on four main stages in order to take into account all the fundamental elements of a territorial recovery process of a product of the earth, allowing the creation of economic value and preserve the natural and cultural heritage associated.

Description of the methodology of the virtuous circle:

1. ID.

The first stage is unavoidable: it is identifying what are the chances to launch a recovery process of quality linked to origin. These possibilities relate to:

The product : Do you submit a linked to the origin quality?
The territory: What resources they are used?
Local actors : Are they motivated to undertake this process ?

2. Product Rating.

This phase is to establish local rules for the production of quality products linked to geographical origin, based on a shared definition by producers, ie participatory manner. In other words, It is the development of a specification and associated control plan, which may be the basis for a possible official record.

3. Remuneration.

The remuneration is to reward the value of MI system, through the market (promotion and marketing) or other systems, o en su case. At this stage, interested parties should coordinate to develop and implement the marketing strategy launched on the promotion of the GI. They analyze and define the role of producer organization responsible for the management of quality linked to origin and IG system. The organization plays a key role of internal coordination, between producers and within the value chain, and representation to society.

4. Reproduction of local resources.

This phase is, actually, a periodic assessment that local stakeholders should take to ensure the sustainability of the system, checking process effects from an economic perspective, social and environmental, and also provide for the necessary changes and adjustments. Reproduction of local resources is valid for the whole territory and, Therefore, for all stakeholders and present activities. The search for a more sustainable development process always leads to the development of an extended territorial strategy. This strategy is to extend the benefits of reputation to all activities and create synergies, for example, through the local tourism with the repercussions that this entails making it refers to the direct sale.

Support public policies.

Throughout this cycle, public policy (national or local) establish the legal and institutional framework capable of creating favorable conditions for the development of the IG, promote their positive effects on local development and strengthen environmental and social sustainability.
