THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYTOSANITARY MANUFACTURERS OPPOSES THE STANDARD.

Last Thursday, the European Union approved a regulation that will restrict the use of pesticides by prohibiting them near public areas such as parks., grounds, schools, fountains or rivers.

This regulation also prohibits aerial fumigation and the use of carcinogenic substances or substances that affect reproduction in its manufacture.. It also raises the safety requirements for neuro- and immunotoxic drugs..

On the other hand, The European association of phytosanitary manufacturers has opposed the standard. The industries defend that, if they are used “in a responsible way”, Pesticides are important to protect Europe's food supply, where those products “they avoid the 61% of potential crop losses”.

The regulations will come into force at the end of this year and must be fully applied within a period of 18 months, once it is published in the Official Journal of the EU.
