This mega solar plant will reach the 500 megawatts when fully operational.
The first projects on a large scale to generate renewable energy begin to conquer in the developing countries. Among them is Mexico, country which pursues the ambitious goal of producing the 35 per cent of their energy with clean sources for 2026 through solar power plants.
Morocco has become one of the countries in development with designs that cover basic electrical services of a dwelling by the available energy from solar panels. From the month of February of 2016, It has entered into operation the world's largest solar plant.
Although it is not yet at full capacity, When you do so you will have the ability to generate power to more than one million Moroccan homes. This in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and to encourage the use of renewable energy for carbon-free development.
Currently a complex called NOOR Noor-Ouarzazate CSP plant, which is expected to reach the 580 megawatts and provides electricity to 1.1 million inhabitants. It is estimated that it can reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in 2,5 million tons approximately, and 760 000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
The first phase of the complex, known as Noor I, occupies 480 hectares, has a capacity of 160 megawatts and will supply power to 135.000 homes. When operational the four phases of the megaplanta, in 2018, It will be one of the largest in the world, will be with 580 megawatts of power and will occupy more than 3.000 hectares.
The megaplanta of Ouarzazate is part of a Moroccan plan, valued in 9.000 millions of dollars (more than 8.000 million euros) and managed by the Moroccan Agency for Solar energy (Masen), whose goal is to produce 2000 megawatts of electricity from the Sun in 2020.
Marie Francoise Nelly, the World Bank Country Director, This plant is an important step for Morocco, because it is a pioneer in the development of ecofriendly: "The result of this investment will be significant for this country and its people, thus reinforcing energy security, the cleanliness and hygiene of the environment and the possibility of new jobs for many individuals."
