The Cabildo of Lanzarote has awarded -provisionalmente and through open and public competition procedure- the company Lanzaloe, S.L. the management and operation of the Center Transformation Cochinilla Lanzarote in the village of Mala, Haria.
The project to develop the business in these facilities will aim to enhance the industry cochineal, forgotten in recent years, through production, processing and marketing of this raw material.
Also it includes a portion for research to develop in this space an R & D project to provide new research and development and criteria for obtaining cochineal dyes and their use as natural additive both in the cosmetic industry as food.
This company, besides allocating an annual fee over the Cabildo 15.000 EUR, It is committed to process and transform between 500 and 5.000 Fresh kilograms annually cochineal, buying for that this raw material on the island of Lanzarote and helping to recover abandoned land.

As complementary activities to the project, the contractor will also develop a space dedicated to the interpretation, conservation, disclosure and valuation of cochineal through an interpretive center with activities aimed at the general population, tourists and visitors, organized groups of schools, institutes or universities, among others. The visit to the center is free.
In the same way, this signature improve existing equipment with new allocations to the interpretation center and the necessary machinery for quality products. it will also provide other means for the development of research R & D that allows to provide new studies for obtaining dyes, among others.
