ganoderma-960x623Called Ganoderma lucidum, has more than 150 antioxidants and phytonutrients that place it above any fungus.

Also called divine mushroom, thousand-year mushroom or immortality mushroom is very popular in the East and Asian countries due to its medicinal properties. However, It has been a great unknown in the West until just thirty years ago.

Various therapeutic and medicinal effects are attributed to this fungus, as anticancer, antiviral (even with HIV), cholesterol-lowering and antihypertensive. It is used especially when the immune system is affected, fundamentally due to its activating effect on said system.

Its beneficial effects are due to the more than 400 bioactive components, especially to the ganoderic acids that give the fungus a characteristic bitter taste, in addition to being powerful antitumor agents, and that have an immunoregulatory effect.

And last but not least, everything that helps our health, this fungus has little toxicity. In fact, several scientific studies have shown the absence of adverse effects after the consumption of Ganoderma both in the short and long term.

This fungus is kidney-shaped and flat., with its reddish soft top, and its underside with white or brown pores, according to their maturity. Grows on old trees, especially in subtropical forests, although it is very rare to find a Ganoderma since only 2 decade 10 a thousand trees have this fungus.

For this reason science has begun to artificially cultivate this medicinal and edible mushroom. In fact, a development carried out in the Laboratory of Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of CERZOS (CONICET-US) uses the husk of the sunflower seed as a substrate for growing the mushroom of immortality.
