THE EU INCREASES SUPPORT FOR THIS FRUIT IN 40 MILLIONS OF WHICH 20,24 THEY WILL CORRESPOND TO THE CANARY ISLANDS.
The European Parliament, The Commission and the Council of the EU have reached an Agreement that provides for additional aid to the budget of 40 million more euros to the banana sector, of which the Canary Islands would receive some 20,24 million euros for production.
This recognizes the impact that the entry into force of the trade agreements signed between the EU and various Latin American countries and the United States has had on the banana sector., within the framework of the WTO agreements in 2009.
This Agreement is part of the new specific regime for the agricultural sector in favor of ultra-peripheral regions, POSEI that contemplates the specificities of the Canary Islands.
The aforementioned Agreement must be ratified both in the Plenary of the European Parliament and in the Council of Agriculture Ministers of the EU in the coming weeks..
