THEY WERE PUBLISHED IN THE BOC OF THE 2 JUNE.

The export tomato producers of the municipality of La Aldea have received with enthusiasm and great optimism what they themselves consider a “oxygen balloon” just at the right time.

The order of 25 may of 2010 which includes the modifications made to the Community Program to support Agricultural Productions in the Canary Islands, published in the BOC of the day 2 June, establishes an aid of 3,60 euros per 100 kgrs., within the maximum limit of 250.000 tons per year.

Regarding aid for the marketing of tomatoes, This will be payable to tomatoes marketed in the rest of the European Union through campaign contracts., concluded between Canarian producers and operators established in the rest of the Union. The amount will be 3,60 euros per 100 kgrs and a maximum auxiliary volume of 150.000 tons per year.

The total financial record is established in 10.100.000 EUR.

Sector sources have recognized Agroaldea that this modification of aid guarantees the cultivation of tomato beyond the year 2013, since from 2014 collects a smaller amount that guarantees its continuity.

These aids together with the extraordinary aid that producers will receive before the end of the month, will mean a “oxygen balloon” just when they need it most. This will impact, if not in an increase in exploitations, in a continuation of the current ones when seeing certain guarantees that allow productions to be made profitable.

All those consulted by Agroaldea have agreed that the tomato “has a future”. Now all that remains is to finish the professionalization process and pest control.
