THE BUDGET FOR THE PERIOD 2014-2020 WILL DOUBLE THE CURRENT.

The economic adviser of the Directorate General of Agriculture of the European Union, Tomas Garcia Azcarate, has made the announcement within the framework of the International Conference on Agriculture of the University of Almería.

Azcárate has explained that the lack of coordination between companies currently makes it difficult, both the creation of a logistics platform and the boom that the launch of a maritime route could have, insisting that the flavor of vegetables should "make the consumer fall in love".

Regarding operating funds, Azcárate declared that although it is legitimate to claim them, it will be “unfeasible” for operating funds to increase their budget by 5%. “We are at a time when there will be important margins for the application of national policies and courageous political decisions will have to be taken.. And one of those decisions is that the money reaches those who really need it. For this sector, these aids only suppose between the 1 and the 2 percent of its economic balance and it is possible that the money is more necessary in other sectors ", he explained.

The economic adviser of the Directorate General of Agriculture of the EU also explained that one of the future challenges of the sector is in the taste of vegetables. "You have to make the consumer fall in love again. One of the mistakes that has been made is to limit the consumption of fruits and vegetables to the aspect of public health. We must make the consumer fall in love, enjoy. We are selling food, no medicines ".

García Azcárate has also pointed out that another challenge is to seek new approaches to increase the value of products that do not have it and thus avoid wasting fruit and vegetables.
