publication MagramaEl Magrama publishes a book that reviews the history of plagues and diseases, related to the current economic importance of greenhouse vegetables.

The Ministry of agriculture, Food and environment, Magrama, has published the book “Pests and diseases of greenhouse vegetables”, to provide data on the identification and control of pathogens and other non-parasitic diseases affecting crops.

As explained in a statement, “its author, the agricultural technical engineer José Reche, addresses with scientific rigor, but in an entertaining and didactic way this extensive study divided into five chapters”.

The book begins with a brief history of pests and diseases, related to the current economic importance of greenhouse vegetables, and the loss caused by the attack of pathogens, as well as the principles on which phytopathology is based.

In the different chapters he studies animal and plant parasitism, and details all the important pests and diseases in crops under plastic.

Then, exposes the diseases not caused by parasites, but related to nutrition, irrigation, the weather or incorrect use of pesticides and herbicides; and lists the main methods for controlling pests and diseases.

The remaining chapters include the machinery used in the treatments and describe the pests that appear in greenhouses caused by viruses., fungi and bacteria, its symptoms and treatment.
