New cherry tomatoIt has been developed by scientists at the University of New Hampshire, in United States.

Under the name of Rambling Rose, the new cherry tomato originated from the auto-polinizacion of a single Tumbler cherry tomato hybrid plant in 2009. This was selected as parent material due to its uniform growth and fruiting.

The selection of plants is made in subsequent generations, carrying out a genealogical selection and choosing the best plants of the family, cultivated both in greenhouses and in the field, to achieve uniformity in the phenotype of the plant and fruit in the seventh generation.

According to the information provided, the quality of the fruit, prematurity, performance and growth of Rumbling Rose habit were comparable or better to other commercial cultivars evaluated in the University of New Hampshire in 2012 and 2013, including Lizzano, Terenzo, Tumbling Tom, Tumbler, Cherry Cascade and Sweetheart of the Patio.

"Our aim was to select plants with an attractive and symmetrical branching, uniform foliage and abundant fruits. Since tomatoes hanging baskets are cultivated not only for its performance, Rambling Rose was developed with the aesthetics of vegetative growth in mind”, said Becky Sideman, researchers at the agricultural Experimental Station of the UNH.

It should be noted that Sideman developed the variety together with Elisabeth Hodgdon of the University of Vermont and Jennifer Noseworthy of the Gordon College.
