The 130 Anniversary of the Canarian export tomato has been one of the main axes of the sector's presence in the largest Fruit and Vegetable Fair in the world, Fruit Logistica 2016 held in Berlin.

The Provincial Federation of associations of exporters of horticultural products of Las Palmas, FEDEX, and the Provincial Association of growers - exporters of tomatoes from Tenerife, ACETO, with the participation of the Canarian Society for Economic Development, S.A., PROEXCA and the collaboration of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, have developed a intense agenda of commercial meetings at Fruit Logística 2016, with the aim of increasing its exports of Canarian tomato and Canary cucumber and diversifying the destinations of its productions.

The counselor considers that the strengthening of the Canary Islands export sector has a strategic importance for the Community, since policies aimed at its modernization and internationalization make it possible to provide added value.

The figures of this edition, before finishing, suggest that they will surpass the previous ones since the increase in exhibitors has been 20%, 2.700 exhibitors 86 countries and has an influx of more than 65.000 visitors from more than 138 countries.

The offer of products and services in this event covers all sectors that participate in the value chain of the fruit and vegetable market., from the production of fresh, to major service companies, passing through distribution companies, marketing, packaging and transportation, as well as fourth and fifth range products.

The sector wanted to highlight the differential fact of 130 Anniversary over other competitors, not only for excellence and product quality, but for being the pioneers in Europe and lead 130 years of activity, experience and constant improvement are the guarantee of success.

The activity maintains a surface of 710 hectares on the islands and employs about ten thousand people between direct and indirect jobs. Until the end of January, Canarian tomato exports from the two provinces amount to a total of 30.840 tons; 5.671 tons more through the province of Las Palmas and 1.775 tons less for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife than on the same date of the previous campaign (2014/2015).
