IN THE AMATEUR BEEKEEPER CATEGORY AND IN THE MODALITY OF COAST HONEY AND SUMMIT HONEY.

Francisco Diaz Diaz, better known as Paquito, has been the village beekeeper whose honeys conquered the tasting jury of the VIII Official Honey Contest of Gran Canaria 2013. In this eighth edition of the contest, a total of 55 samples of 37 beekeepers from Gran Canaria.

Paquito is overwhelmed by the prizes since “I did not expect this year of very little honey that it could be like this; the few that have been castrated were almost not to compete. But you see”.

Paquito's fondness for beekeeping comes from old. Since in his native Artenara he participated with his family in obtaining honey from their hives, dedication was increasing.

Today it has several dozen beehives distributed between the municipalities of La Aldea and Artenara. Paquito confesses that this activity, more than a hobby, for him it is a passion.

Along with other colleagues from the La Aldea Beekeepers Association, Paquito competed in the VIII edition of the Official Contest “more for participating than for seeking the prize. This has been a surprise”.

Paquito affirms that in La Aldea very good honeys are obtained and encourages more people to join this hobby than, not only is it sweet, you get some euro, it is the best therapy to relax and disconnect.

The texture, The fragance, flavor, The color as well as the nutritional properties are the general criteria by which the quality of the honeys made in the summit areas is evaluated., midlands and coast of the island of Gran Canaria.

The winners in the VIII Official Honey Contest of Gran Canaria in the category of professional beekeepers were:

• With the Third Prize of Honey from the Coast, for Henry Muñoz Pérez, of Santa Brígida, with the brand honey "Mieles Sabinatura".

• Second Prize for Honey from the Coast, Antonio López Déniz, by Valsequillo, with the brand honey "Mieles Montes de Malpedrosillo".

• First Prize in the category of Coastal Honey, Jose Florido Santana, from Telde with the brand honey "Colmenar Florido".

 

• Third Prize in the Middling Honey category, Antonio Navarro Almeida, of Saint Lucia, with the brand honey "Sombras del Nublo".

• Second Prize for Middling Honey, again for Henry Muñoz Pérez, of Santa Brígida, with the brand honey "Mieles Sabinatura".

• First Prize of Middling Honey, for Sergio Márquez Dos Santos, from Vega de San Mateo, for the brand honey "Apícola San Mateo".

 

• Third Summit Honey Award, for Manuel Valido Martel, the Telde, for the brand honey "La Abeja del Guanche", the only organic honey from Gran Canaria.

• Second Prize of Summit Honey, Juan Manuel Casimiro Fleitas, by Ingenio, by honeys "Casimiro y Peñate".

• First Prize of Summit Honey, for the company Artenatur SL., de Artenara.

 

As for the beekeepers belonging to the amateur category, they were awarded:

• Third Prize for Honey from the Coast, for Antonio Corujo Ramírez, of Las Palmas.

• Second Prize for Honey from the Coast, Lorenzo Perez Diaz, the Telde.

• First Prize in the category of Coastal Honey, Francisco Diaz Diaz, of La Aldea de San Nicolás.

 

• Third Prize in the Middling Honey category, Pedro Dominguez Hernandez, of Saint Lucia.

• Second Prize for Middling Honey, for Antonio Corujo Ramírez, of Las Palmas.

• First Prize for Mid-range Honey for Carmen Rosa Florido Santana, the Telde.

 

• Third Summit Honey Award, for Beatriz de la Concepción Bordón Pérez, by Ingenio.

• Second Prize of Summit Honey, for Pedro Domínguez Hernández, of Saint Lucia.

• First Prize of Summit Honey, for Francisco Díaz Díaz, of La Aldea de San Nicolás.

 

At last, the Special Mention for the Best Honey of Gran Canaria year 2013 was awarded to the company Artenatur SL.
