FARMERS, LIVESTOCK FARMERS AND COMPANIES IN THE SECTOR HAVE ALREADY MADE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

The Association for Rural Development, RURALDEA, will hold the last work session on the EC Public Consultation to present the conclusions to the European Commission, this coming saturday day 9 November, starting at 11:00 hours at the La Aldea Agrarian Extension Agency.

For the European Commission, This Public Consultation aims to gather the opinion of citizens since the organization appreciates the need to review some specific elements of the POSEI regime, so that it continues to play its role in supporting agriculture in the ORs.

The two mechanisms on which the POSEI is based are the REA and the MAPL. The first aims to guarantee the supply of essential agricultural products to respond to the needs of producers, agri-food industry and consumers, offsetting additional costs for operators.

The second aims to support local agricultural and livestock sectors with a view to compensating for the disadvantages of the Outermost Regions., RUP.

Although none of the organizations involved question the need for POSEI, Yes, it is true that some distortions have occurred that have generated harm and discrimination between subsectors.. To the point that some subsidized imports have exercised unfair competition with local productions, leading their operators to ruin..

The voices that in recent years have been raised to demand equity in this vital instrument for the ORs, resulted in this Public Consultation announced by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dacian Ciolos, on his visit to the Canary Islands last September.

From RURALDEA they understand that this opportunity “unique” should not be wasted and, Therefore, All those who consider it must participate in this consultation so that their “voice” be heard and taken into account.

In order to facilitate the response to the consultation document, RURALDEA has held sectoral work groups that will culminate in the scheduled work session, to send the responses to the Commission before next Tuesday 12, Consultation expiration date.
